Double Disappointment in Junior Cup Competitions

Share

Both the 4th and 5th teams had disappointing results in their respective Cup Competitions.  Both teams led at half time but in the end lost out by the narrowest of margins.

O’Connor Cup Final – Old Wesley 26 Dublin Univ. 28

In the O’Connor Cup Final the 5ths looked to be in cruise control as they led 17 nil at half time thanks to a try by Kier Johnson and four well taken penalties by Luke Di Renzy. However the students struck early in the second half with a converted try followed by a penalty kick. As the second half progressed Wesley started to tire and their cause was not helped when they receiving two yellow cards. Trinity scored two tries and a penalty to lead 25-23 with the game in injury time. Di Renzy regained the lead with a neatly struck penalty kick but in the last play Wesley conceded a penalty inside their own 22 which Trinity had not difficulty in converting.

Winters Cup Semi Final – Old Wesley 18 Terenure 20

The 4ths also lost out in their semi final. Despite leading 15-7 at half time they eventually lost by 2 points to old rivals Terenure.
