Message from the Club Captain – Darren Horan
On this historic 125th year for Old Wesley Rugby Club, it gives me great pride and honour to be appointed captain of 1st XV for the 2016/2017 season. Old Wesley RFC is steeped in great memories for both young and old and I am confident this season will create some of its own. With the development of our new Clubhouse and the recent addition of two state of the art 4G pitches, the current and future players could not ask for better facilities.
On behalf of the club I would like to take the opportunity to welcome all new players and coaches; there is no doubt that you will experience the same hospitality and friendliness that I have received over the past five years. I would like to offer a special welcome to Adam Griggs who is joining us as our new backs coach. Adam is taking over from Willie Clancy who has decided to hang up his lucky green fleece. On behalf of the senior squad, I would like to sincerely thank Willie for all of his hard work and commitment to the club and players for the past three years.
Our senior squad continues to go from strength to strength under our head coach Morgan Lennon. Having marginally missed out on the playoffs in our first season in Division 1B last year we believe that we have gained some invaluable experience that will drive us toward a successful 2016/2017 season.
To all our teams, I congratulate you on a hugely successful 2015/2016 season; it was great to see so many teams bring silverware back to Donnybrook in the later stages of the season. I wish you a successful and enjoyable 2016/2017 season and hope to see many of you around the club throughout the year.
To our sponsors, particularly our primary sponsor, Savills, we sincerely appreciate your invaluable support to the club.
The commitment and hard work that goes on behind the scenes here is what makes Old Wesley a truly special club. Even during the ongoing pavilion works last year, the club and its members did not let this affect the atmosphere and facilities on offer. Therefore to all volunteers and supporters, I would like to offer huge thanks.
Finally I would like to thank last year’s captain Ian Cassidy for the dedication and leadership he showed both on and off the pitch.
